Nigel Evans backed by Edwina Currie to continue parliamentary work

Former UK government health minister Edwina Currie has backed the MP Nigel Evans to continue his work in Westminster after he was cleared last week of a string of sex abuse charges, including one of rape.

The rape claim was one of several allegations made by seven men during a five-week trial at Preston Crown Court.

Ms Currie, who attended Mr Evans's trial, said Mr Evans had a good reputation, was "enormously well respected" in parliament and had a job to do as an MP.

She said following a break there was no reason why he should not "do more things," particularly in the parliamentary sphere.

She spoke to Vaughan Roderick on BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement programme.
