Schizophrenia study reveals new clues to illness cause

New treatments for schizophrenia could be possible as vital clues behind the factors causing the mental illness are discovered.

A team led by Professor Michael O'Donovan from Cardiff University found more than one hundred genetic risk factors linked to schizophrenia following the biggest ever study of its kind.

It follows several years of work involving more than 300 scientists in 35 countries worldwide.

Prof O'Donovan said their discoveries had shed new light on the biological cause of schizophrenia.
