Wales' illegal tobacco rate 'worrying' says charity

The amount of illegal tobacco being sold in Wales is "extremely worrying", the chief executive of anti-smoking charity Ash Wales has said.

Elen de Lacy's comments come after a survey by the charity found 15% of all tobacco sold here was counterfeit.

Around a quarter of Welsh smokers admitted they had bought illegal tobacco, with 60% of those purchasing it at least once a month.

The trade is estimated to be worth millions of pounds, with one raid alone netting cigarettes valued at £0.5m.
