University researchers 'not boffins in ivory towers'

Nearly a third of the research work carried out by Welsh universities is of "world leading" quality.

That is the finding of the Research Excellence Framework, external - which compares the work submitted by every university in the UK.

It says Wales has slightly out performed the rest of the UK.
