Bevan Foundation: Wales cannot 'chuck money' at problems

Throwing money at problems is not the way to prevent the bleak forecast for Wales outlined by a think-tank, the report author has said.

If forecasts are correct, the gap in productivity between Wales and the UK will widen by 2020, analysis from the Bevan Foundation suggests.

It also predicts more professional but fewer lower skilled jobs which make up a significant part of Wales' economy.

The Wales Office said Wales was an ambitious nation with a strong future built on solid economic foundations.

Foundation director and report author Dr Victoria Winckler told BBC Wales economics correspondent Sarah Dickins that with public finances tight, throwing money at the problem was no longer an option.
