Tata steel ballot 'not a political issue' - Unite

A union official at Tata says politicians should keep out of the steelworkers' ballot over proposed changes to their final pensions.

Mark Turner, of Unite at Port Talbot, said the vote, which is due to begin at the end of the month, involved personal decisions for workers and also the future of the industry.

Plaid Cymru's economy spokesman Adam Price had said Tata was being "opportunistic", adding workers should ask it to rethink the offer.

Tata has said pension reform is essential to a deal that would see £1bn invested at Port Talbot over 10 years.
