Domestic abuse refuge funding cuts 'risks lives'

Funding cuts could put domestic abuse victims' lives at risk if refuges close, a leading charity has warned.

About 800 women, children and men were turned away from safe houses in Wales in 2016-17, at times because units were full.

In the past year the units have had a 5% funding cut and there are fears the loss of a protected Welsh Government grant could see refuges close.

Tina Reece, from Welsh Women's Aid, said victims were most at risk when they left their abuser and it was essential they had somewhere safe to stay.
