Domestic abuse: 'The refuge I fled to saved my life'

A woman has told how she feared for her life before escaping an abusive relationship.

About 800 women, children and men were turned away from safe houses in Wales in 2016-17, at times because units were full.

In the past year the units have had a 5% funding cut and there are fears the loss of a protected Welsh Government grant could see refuges close.

This woman - whose words have been spoken by a BBC journalist - said finding a refuge was the best thing that could have happened to her.
