Domestic abuse victim 'could have ended up homeless'

A woman who left her abusive partner has said she would have ended up sleeping rough if she had not got a place at a women's refuge.

About 800 women, children and men were turned away from safe houses in Wales in 2016-17, at times because units were full.

In the past year the units have had a 5% funding cut and there are fears the loss of a protected Welsh Government grant could see refuges close.

She agreed to speak anonymously - her words have been voiced by a BBC journalist to protect her identity.
