Thirty more AMs 'future-proofs' assembly against 'a lot of unknowns'

Increasing the number of AMs would improve scrutiny of ministers and "future-proof" the Welsh Assembly for future challenges, Prof Laura McAllister has said as chair of an expert panel.

Its report says the institution needs another 20 to 30 members, in addition to the current 60, to cope with a growing workload.

The Cardiff University academic said moving to 89 or 90 assembly members would bring "greater dividends" and leave the Senedd better able to cope with challenges such as Brexit.
