Syria: How the Houla massacre unfolded

The shockwaves of horror at the killing of more than 108 people in the Syrian town of Houla are still being felt around the world, and violence has continued in many parts of the country.

The UN Security Council has condemned the use of heavy weapons by Syria's government during the massacre in but Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that rebels in Syria are partly responsible.

In the latest attempt to salvage his peace plan, the UN envoy Kofi Annan has travelled to Damascus for talks with the Syrian leader Bashar al Assad.
