Pressure on US to 'suspend aid' to Egypt

President Obama joined the mounting international condemnation of the violence in Egypt and announced that the US is cancelling joint military exercises due to start next month.

Mr Obama has said "America cannot determine the future of Egypt".

There are no signs - that the United States is prepared to cancel its substantial military aid to Egypt - a country it sees as a key ally in the Middle East.

However, pressure is beginning to mount on the US as Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Erdogan has said "Washington must share the responsibility" for the violence in Egypt.
