Jean-Pierre Bemba denies ICC war crimes charges

The war crimes trial of Congolese former rebel leader Jean-Pierre Bemba has begun at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

He faces fives charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity relating to the actions of his militia forces against civilians in the neighbouring Central African Republic in 2002 and 2003.

The prosecution allege he did nothing to stop his forces using murder and rape as a weapon of war. He denies the charges.

As Peter Biles reports the former vice-president of DR Congo is the most high-profile figure to be tried by the ICC.
