Gaddafi's forces continue to pressure rebels

As talks were taking place at the UN on Thursday, Colonel Gaddafi was broadcasting a message to his opponents in Libya warning them to lay down their weapons and be pardoned or else face "no mercy or clemency".

Forces loyal to Gaddafi have continued their advance on rebel-held strongholds in the east of the country, with heavy fighting taking place in Ajdabiya.

Government warplanes have also bombed targets on the outskirts of Benghazi the country's second city and the stronghold of rebel forces during the month-long conflict.

The BBC's Ian Pannell reports.
