Obama to Gaddafi: 'Libya must be protected'

President Obama has warned Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi that the international community will act with "urgency" to protect anti-government demonstrators in his country.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Mr Obama called for an "immediate end to the violence against civilians", saying that the international "consensus was strong" and its "resolve is clear".

The US president is on a five-day tour of Latin America, aimed at building markets for US exports and extending US influence.
