Hillary Clinton: Libya's Gaddafi 'defying world'

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called on the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to obey international sanctions or face serious consequences.

Speaking after a meeting of coalition partners in Paris, Mrs Clinton dismissed Colonel Gaddafi's claims of a ceasefire and said that the US would use its "unique capabilities" to help stop violence against civilians.

Mrs Clinton confirmed that the US would not deploy ground troops in Libya but reinforced the country's commitment to the UN agreement.
