Tripoli resident: 'We're going to defend ourselves'
One of Col Muammar Gaddafi's sons, Saif al-Islam, has appeared in Tripoli and claimed the government had "broken the backbone" of the rebel offensive there.
There are reports of renewed gunfire, mortars and grenades in the areas of the capital still held by Gaddafi forces.
But speaking to the BBC, one Tripoli resident, Seraj, said a majority of the city was in rebel hands, and its residents were willing to join the fight against Col Gaddafi's troops.
