Sirte bombarded as anti-Gaddafi forces launch major assault

Forces loyal to Libya's transitional government have launched a major assault on the city of Sirte, which has been under siege for the last three weeks.

It is one of the last strongholds of troops loyal to Colonel Gaddafi.

Some units are now less than a mile from the city centre in what appears to be the final push for Colonel Gaddafi's home town.

BBC's Jonathan Head is with rebel forces in Sirte and sent this report.
