Hillary Clinton urges Sudan agreement over oil

US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has called on Sudan and South Sudan to settle their differences over sharing oil revenues, an issue that is driving both countries to the brink of bankruptcy.

Speaking on her first visit to South Sudan, Mrs Clinton said it was urgent that the two sides reached agreement at talks under way in Ethiopia, since the fortunes of all Sudanese remained inextricably linked.

She said the people of South Sudan urgently needed the capital that the oil revenue would provide.

Mrs Clinton also recommended that a short term deal be drawn up between Sudan and South Sudan, which could then be consolidated over time.
