South Africa mine Lonmin drops threat to fire workers
Mining giant Lonmin has dropped its threat to fire workers who failed to return to work at a South African mine where 34 strikers were shot dead by police last week.
Lonmin says it wants to ease tensions and respect the period of mourning.
Speaking to the BBC from the Marikana mine, the company's spokeswoman Sue Vey denied the decision had resulted from government pressure.
