SA miners charged with murder

State prosecutors in South Africa have used an apartheid-era law to charge 270 workers from the Marikana platinum mine with the murder of 34 of their colleagues who were shot dead by the police.

The killings took place on 16 August.

The police who shot the protestors have not yet been charged, but an inquiry is being held into their conduct.

The BBC's Nomsa Maseko reports from Johannesburg.
