Ex-Ivory Coast president Laurent Gbabgo in The Hague

Laurent Gbagbo, the former president of the Ivory Coast, made history when he became the first former head of state to face charges at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

He is accused of ordering violent attacks against supporters of his political rival Alassane Outtara after the disputed 2010 elections and will respond to the charges in court.

Anna Holligan reports from The Hague, where she says the prosecution played footage allegedly showing government tanks present at the killings of innocent women.

His defence deny the claims, saying their client is being used as a scapegoat.
