Philippine court orders Arroyo arrest for plunder

A Philippine court has ordered former President Gloria Arroyo's arrest on plunder charges for allegedly misusing state lottery funds while in office.

Mrs Arroyo is accused of diverting $8.8m (£5.5m) from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for her personal gain.

She was detained earlier this year on a separate election fraud charge but released on bail in July.

The warrant came a day after she filed papers seeking re-election to congress.
