Typhoon Bopha: Philippines survivors 'need help'

Typhoon Bopha devastated parts of the southern Philippines last Tuesday, but the number of people killed and missing has been climbing steadily.

President Benigno Aquino has declared a state of national calamity as the search for the missing continues.

Raul Hernandez, spokesman for the Philippines department of Foreign Affairs, told the BBC that survivors needed non-perishable food, shelter and medicine.

Mr Hernandez said the Philippines government would welcome foreign assistance.
