Teargas fired as Pakistan protesters clash with Islamabad police

Police in Pakistan have fired teargas and rubber bullets at anti-government protesters marching on the official Islamabad residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

At least four people, including two policemen, were injured in the clashes.

Demonstrators loyal to opposition politician Imran Khan and cleric Tahrul Qadri have been taking part in a sit-in for two weeks. They claim Mr Sharif's election victory last year was rigged and are calling for him to step down.

Protest leader Dr Tahir Ul-Qadri told the BBC that the protesters were "peaceful" and the government had started "direct firing".
