Hong Kong protests: BBC looks back at relationship with China

Pro-democracy protesters are continuing to line the streets of Hong Kong despite pleas from the territory's leader to end their campaign.

The demonstrators are demanding that China withdraw plans to vet candidates for the next leadership election in 2017.

In 1997 the former British colony was handed back to China with a 50-year guarantee that it would retain "a high degree of autonomy".
