For decades almost all of Myanmar's border areas have been gripped by some sort of ethnic conflict.
In Shan state, the land has become a patchwork of rebel - and militia-controlled territory - with the widespread production and trade of drugs such as opium.
But it is not just drugs being traded. Along the Chinese border, Burmese women and children are being bought and sold.
