Health fears for Cyclone Pam survivors in Vanuatu

A British doctor has told the BBC about the widespread destruction she has seen on Vanuatu including damage to healthcare facilities.

A state of emergency has been declared in the tiny state of 267,000 people, spread over 65 islands after Cyclone Pam struck on Saturday.

Carina Smith, who was holidaying on the islands, said she was offering what support she could to medics in the capital Port Vila, who are dealing with a loss of power and limited resources.

She said she was particularly concerned about how local services would cope with any potential outbreaks of disease.
