Japan earthquake: Death toll rises after second Japan quake

More than 40 people are known to have died in the two powerful earthquakes that struck the south-west Japanese island of Kyushu.

Hundreds more people have been injured and it is feared that more are trapped beneath rubble.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has warned that rescuers are in a "race against time" to find survivors.
