EU proposal to save fish stocks

The European Fisheries Commission has published proposals for a major reform of the Common Fisheries Policy.

British ministers want to see an end to the wasteful practice of discards, where perfectly good, dead fish, are thrown back into the sea because the quota system doesn't allow them to be landed. Consultations will last for a year.
