Vladimir Putin to run for Russian presidency

Vladimir Putin has dispelled months of speculation and confirmed he will run for the Russian presidency next year.

Addressing the annual congress of the governing United Russia party, he and the current President, Dmitri Medvedev, said they would support each other as they seek to switch roles.
