Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has been formally adopted as the presidential candidate for the ruling party, United Russia.

It means he is almost certain to return as president when Russia votes in a new leader next March.

But the most powerful man in Russian politics is as not as popular as he once was, as Daniel Sandford reports.
