Has France fallen out of love with Europe?

EU leaders will meet for a summit on Friday, and at the top of the agenda will be a Franco-German proposal for a new treaty to deepen economic ties in the face of the sovereign debt crisis.

The relationship between the two countries has been the powerhouse behind European integration, as enshrined by the Maastricht Treaty in 1992, which set up the EU and the single currency.

However, now it seems that ordinary French people are less keen on the European Union.
