Costa Concordia's captain: 'Rocks not detected'

The captain of a cruise ship which ran aground off Italy's coast has said his navigation system did not detect the rocks which tore through his ship.

Capt Francesco Schettino said the ship was about 300m (985ft) from the shore when it ran aground.

Speaking to Italian television, he denied he left the ship before all the passengers had been sent to shore.

Mr Schettino was being questioned as officials try to find the cause of the disaster.
