Exhibition explores French rule over Algeria

A new exhibition has opened in Paris which explores 130 years of French colonial rule over Algeria.

"Algeria 1830 - 1962" at the Army Museum in the Invalides, starts with the arrival of an invading force at Sidi-Farruch in June 1830.

But by far the greatest interest lies in the second part of the exhibition which deals exclusively with the eight-year war of independence - which culminated in France's ignominious pull-out of the country.

Christian Baptiste, general de division (2S) is director of the museum.
