Karadzic: 'I should be rewarded for role in war'

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has begun his defence at a war crimes court in The Hague.

Mr Karadzic denies 10 charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in the 1990s.

Addressing the court, Mr Karadzic refuted the accusations and said: "Instead of being accused for the events in our civil war I should have been rewarded for all the good things I've done."

He had sought peace agreements, applied humanitarian measures and honoured international law, he said.
