Silvio Berlusconi 'will not lie down'

Former Italian Prime Minster Silvio Berlusconi is a "combative politician" who "is not going to lie down" after he was found guilty of tax evasion by a court in Milan, the BBC's David Willey has suggested.

On Saturday Mr Berlusconi said that he felt "obliged" to stay in politics, a day after receiving a jail term that he plans to appeal.

He said he wanted to "reform the justice system so that what happened to me doesn't happen to other citizens".

Later Mr Berlusconi confirmed he did not want to stand for prime minister.
