Cameron and Merkel hold EU talks in Germany

British prime minister David Cameron has arrived in Germany for talks with Angela Merkel over his plans to reform the European Union.

Mr Cameron is keen to persuade the German Chancellor that the terms of Britain's membership of the EU need to be renegotiated.

The meeting comes as Portugal and the Republic of Ireland were granted an extra seven years to pay back their EU bailout loans, and as documents suggested that the cost of the bailout for Cyprus has increased to 23bn euros ($30bn; £19.5bn) from 17bn euros ($22bn; £14bn).
