Tymoshenko 'was refused access to lawyer' on fifth day of hunger strike

Around 20,000 Ukrainians have turned out to protest in Kiev's Independence Square, scene of the Orange Revolution almost a decade ago.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych abruptly froze plans to sign the trade and reform deal last week, under pressure from Russia.

After his sudden and controversial announcement, the country's jailed former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, went on hunger strike in solidarity with the protesters.

Now she has been refused access to her lawyer, according to her daughter.

Eugenia Tymoshenko told Newsnight she is worried for her mother who is on her fifth day of hunger strike.
