Ukraine crisis: Russia urged to 'step back'

Nato Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has urged Russia to "step back" in order to stop the crisis in Ukraine from escalating further.

Speaking to the BBC's Christian Fraser in Paris, Mr Rasmussen said it was "a matter or urgency" that Moscow pulled back its troops massed along the border with eastern Ukraine.

He also urged European Nato nations in particular to stop "deep cuts in defence budgets".

Tensions remain high between Kiev and Moscow following the recent referendum and annexation of Crimea - a move condemned as illegal by the West and Ukraine.
