Ukraine 'evacuated buildings with tear gas' in Mariupol

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has called for dialogue to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, and called on anti-government activists in the country's largely Russian-speaking east to postpone a vote on independence.

But across the region, key official buildings are still occupied by pro-Russian groups.

Police briefly dislodged the activists on Wednesday morning in the city of Mariupol - but now they are back and insist they still want the right to vote on breaking away from Kiev.

Sarah Rainsford reports.
