Spanish King Juan Carlos abdicates after 40 years on throne

The Spanish King Juan Carlos has announced that he is abdicating after nearly 40 years on the throne.

He said he would step down in favour of his son Crown Prince Felipe.

For much of his reign, Juan Carlos was seen as one of the world's most popular monarchs, but recently many Spaniards have lost confidence in him.
