Thousands join anti-monarchy protest in Madrid

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Madrid to demand a referendum to abolish Spain's monarchy.

It comes days after King Juan Carlos announced he was abdicating in favour of his son.

It was only a few hours after the 76-year-old king announced his abdication on 2 June that a wave of republicanism spread across the country.
