Iraq crisis: German Yazidi community stage demonstration

The Yazidi community in Germany are holding a demonstration at the persecution of Yazidis in Iraq.

Thousands of refugees from the religious minority have fled their homes in recent days and are stranded in the Sinjar mountains, hiding from Islamic State (IS) militants.

The US has carried out airstrikes in an attempt to stem the advance of the IS in Iraq, and carried out air drops of supplies to the Yazidi people on a mountainside in the north of the country.

Speaking to the BBC at the protest in Bielefeld, Songül Tolan of the Central Council of Yazidis in Germany urged the international community to provide further aid and military intervention.
