Ukraine: Donetsk civilians 'in need of aid'

Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine have called for a ceasefire and aid to avoid a "humanitarian catastrophe" in Donetsk.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is ready to consider allowing humanitarian assistance into the rebel-held area of eastern Ukraine.

However, he said that any mission into Donetsk must be international and unarmed, and could only enter through Ukrainian-controlled checkpoints.

Russia has repeatedly called for humanitarian help for civilians in eastern Ukraine.
