Hollande honours officers: 'They died so we can be free'
The French president Francois Hollande has attended a ceremony at the Prefecture de Police for three officers who died in last week's terror attacks in the capital.
Two of the officers, Ahmed Merabet and Franck Brinsolaro, died in the assault by Islamist gunmen against the satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo and one, Clarissa Jean-Philippe, was shot in a connected attack by a lone gunman.
The president laid the Legion d'honneur medal on the officers' coffins at the ceremony attended by families of the victims.
He said the officers - one of them black, one white, and one Arab - represented the diversity of France, and its unity in the face of a brutal attack.
