Headteacher: 'Last week, we saw off 16 cheerful children'

The headteacher of Joseph-Koenig-Gymnasium in Haltern-am-See, north-west Germany, has spoken of how he is "beyond comprehension and speechless" at the loss of 16 schoolchildren and two teachers in the Germanwings air crash.

All 150 people on board were killed when the plane crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday.

Ulrich Wessel told a press conference that a week ago, the school "saw off 16 cheerful young people" and teachers on an exchange trip which had "ended in a tragedy".
