Oskar Groening: Auschwitz guard admits guilt

A former Nazi SS guard who has gone on trial in Germany over mass killings at the Auschwitz concentration camp has admitted that he shares a "moral guilt" and has asked for forgiveness.

But Oskar Gröning - who is now in his 90s - said it was up to the court to decide if he should be convicted as an accessory to 300,000 murders.

He became known as the "accountant of Auschwitz" because his job was to document the possessions of the newly arrived prisoners.

He denies being directly involved in mass-murder .
