Syrian refugee: 'Migrants will risk it whatever EU leaders say'

The British government says it will opt out of controversial plans for European countries to adopt a quota system for migrants.

The European Commission's proposals are being sent to all EU countries on Wednesday.

The number of people who have tried to cross the Mediterranean so far this year is estimated to be almost 63,500 and more than 1,800 are thought to have died.

Damian Grammaticas has been following one Syrian, Mohammed Srour Mallah, who survived when his boat sank off the coast of Rhodes. He has since reached Germany where he is seeking asylum.
