Migrant crisis: State of emergency declared in Hungary

Hungary has declared a state of emergency in southern districts bordering Serbia.

It comes just hours after the country introduced new laws aimed at stopping the unchecked flow of migrants into the country.

A government spokesman, Zoltan Kovacs, said the declaration gives special powers to police, and authorises the deployment of troops to assist them.

The BBC's Fergal Keane is on the Hungarian side of the Hungarian-Serbian border.

He says people are pressing up to the fence but there is no way through for them.
